The imposing island of Lesvos is the 3rd biggest in Greece, its capital city is Mytilini and has a population of 32.146 citizens. Its first king, Makaras, gave his son-in-law name to the island.

Climatically Lesvos Island has a mild, Mediterranean climate with much sun light all over the year. Lesvos Island fairly is considered as the homeland of Ouzo due to the extended vocation of its citizens with the distillery while many famous labels of ouzo come from Lesvos.

In the island there are the two beautiful bays of Gera and Kalloni and numerous moorages and capes. You will be surprised by the view of the torrents that seep the lowlands like Tsiknias, Tsichliotas, Mylopotamos, Sedoundas and Almyropotamos. At the east and central terrains you will admire an island verdurous of olives, pines, firs, platens, chestnuts, beeches and oaks and the generall wealth of the flora and fauna of the island.

Amphitheatrically built around the south port, the capital city of Mytilini hosts unique sights like the church of Metropolis with the special spiritual interest and the singular ecclesiastic vessels and the beautiful icons, the Ancient Theatre, the statue of the Muse Sappho, the Romean Aquaduct, the bronze Statue of Liberty, same as the one in N.Y. and many museums such as the Archaeological, the Spiritual and the Folklore and Modern Art Museum. The pass of the Byzantine years also left to the city one of its biggest castles, the one of Ioustinianos that today hosts cultural exhibitions.

At the south part of the city there are the offshore villages of Vareia and Neapolis with the scenic country houses in short distance of the sea, Kratighos, with the beautiful beaches and the pinewoods that hosts every year the numerous tents of the holidaymakers. Afterwards we reach the pine-clad coast of Agios Ermogenis and a few kilometers northern Loutra beach with the big olive groves and the plenty waters.

Following the north exit of the city you reach Panagiouda, a village with intensive nightlife and peacefull beaches. Then we continue at a tropical beach with palm trees that give an exotic tone at Pamphila village. The same route leads to Skala beach, a colorful beach with shingle, verdurous gardens and pictorial country resorts. This pictorial pandemonium is continued at the silver-green beaches of Apropotamos and Agios Nicolaos and at the Tokmakia islets with the white sand and the deep blue waters.

The road is leading at the north side of the island passing through the homeland of the great litterateur Stratis Myrivilis and famous for the Nightingale Gully and ends at the beautiful village of Petra where, at sunset, theviwe of the red sun diving at the Aegean waters deeply impresses.

Northern we meet Molyvos, the well-beloved place for many Greece and one of the most picturesque were the architecture impresses and the visitor hardly separates. Skala Polychnitou is a fishermen' port that has been developed into a tourist resort with the beaches of Skala and Nyphida. At Vatera there is the famous beach of the 8 km length. This sandy beach is one of the best in Europe and constitutes of an important attraction for the resorters.The beautiful beaches of Petra and Anaxos every summer are filling with crowds while at Mythimna there is the famous beach of Eftaloi and the shingle one of Molyvos.

Findings of the excavations at ancient Thermi proclaim the previous growth of pottery and copper processing. The art of pottery is until today expressed in Agiaso with traditional means such as the clay, the ceramic wheels and the ovens.

Big progress has also been done in the woodcraft. Based one the plenty olive wood there have been created temples for churches, wooden chests, imitations of ancient vessels and other.

Individual clothing of Lesvos Island you can see at the permanent exhibition of Female Union of Lesvos such as peajackets, furs, coats, female golden-covered festal clothes from Plomari, Vrisa and Gera area. At the same exhibition there are traditional textiles and weavings.

Folklore collections with traditional clothes you can find in the entire island and they are opened all over the year, each one with its own unique exhibitions.

There are also saved palaces in brilliant condition like the one of Alepoudelis (Odysseas Elytis) and Papadopoulos with the characteristic Ionian and Dorian colums, facades and arched alcoves.

The Archaeological Museum is hosted at a traditional mansion. There you can see pieces of the prehistoric pottery, earthen docks from Thermi, archaic vessels from Antissa, terracottas from Pyra and golden coins fromMesses. At the court of the Museum there are Aeolian capitals from Apollo's Temple in Cklopedi, the marble throne of Potamonas the rhetor, small altars and other. At the hypogeum there is a volume of findings from the middles of the 4th millennium. A new archaeological museum has been also found at Kioski area with valuable exhibits from the archaic until the Romaic period.

The Byzantine Spiritual Museum opposite of Agios Therapontas contains important icons and artifacts related to Christian faith and testify the natural artistic adeptness of its creators at their try for expressing their religious sentiments. There are veils with pearls, pieces of fine temples from old churches, scripts and books. Under the museum there are also mosaics of the Romaic times.

Inside the building of the old Port Authority there is the Museum of Folklore Art. Its exhibit collection contains earthen vessels, gambles from Agiasos and Mantamado, plates with representations of the old ordinary life and other articles that show the artistic style of Lesvos and reflect the past of the island.

Theofilos Museum with its 5 halls hosts 86 pieces of this great folk artist. Among them distinguishing are "Limnios Kechagias", "Kolpos tis Geras" and "O Choros tis Tratas".

You should also visit the Library-Museum Teriad, a big building with specially organized areas where the 16 of its 20 rooms have been offered for the presentation of Teraids 29 books. Among the other exhibits there are 5 books illustrated by Sagal, books of the classic times such as "The Idylls" of Theokritos, "Loukios and the cuddy", the "Dialogues" of Loukianos and the "Erga kai Imerai" of Isiodous, the "Song of the dead" of Pier Reverdie illustrated by Picasso, "The circus" of Fernan Lezue" with 50 scripts and lithographies of the great sculptor Giacommeti. In the other halls you will find issues of Teriad's magazines and 3 of the rooms the ground floor 40 tableaus of Theofilos. Honoring is also the presence of pieces of the famous Greek painter Giannis Tsarouchis.
