Car Rental in Ikaria

Ikaria is a Greek island in the Aegean Sea, 10 nautical miles southwest of Samos. According to tradition, it derives its name from Icarus, the son of Daedalus in Greek mythology, who was believed to have fallen into the sea nearby.

Stones houses, throughout the Byzantine period Ikaria was at the mercy of pirates and foreign invaders, just like many other islands of the Aegean.
In order to protect themselves, Ikarians used to construct their houses in a way that made them look like massive rocks from a certain distance. These houses were made with stones and plates and they had low ceiling without a chimney, so that no smoke could be seen from away and put people into danger.

The temple of Artemis in Nas, dates back to the 6th century BC and it is said that it was built by the Ikarians in honor of the mother goddess Artemis who happened to be the patroness of seafarers as well as the protector of hunters and wild animals. Historians are unanimous in believing that Nas was probably the first ever settlement of Ikaria and from the ancient times it provided safe anchorage to the shipping vessels that sailed to Asia Minor.

The Ancient Thermal Springs, the island of Ikaria has an abundance of the highly therapeutic radio-energized springs. They are regarded as the best in the world. Historically Therma in Ikaria has been a very popular place particularly for hydrotherapy ever since the 4th century BC. At Therma, located 2 km from Agios Kirikos, one can still find the vestiges and ruins of the ancient baths that bear testimony to the existence of the therapeutic springs.

Church of Panagia Theoskepasti, this small church has an unusual architecture as it has a rock as a roof. The skulls of some monks are housed inside the chapel.

Tower of Dracano, the tower is dated to the 4th century BC. Its blocks are of a visibly finer and more compact quality of marble that is found in the fortification walls of this site.
